フランス国鉄は長年にわたり、著名な芸術家たちにフランス各地の代表的な観光地を描かせ、フランス国内の人々や旅行者に鉄道旅行を促す目的でポスター制作を依頼してきました。

このポスターは、藤田嗣治がフランス国籍を取得してから数年後の作品です。彼はすでに国際的に知られており、 フランス文化を象徴する画家として起用され、地方の理想化された風景を詩的に表現する役割を担いました。

ここで紹介されているのは、パリから2時間の距離に位置するノルマンディー地方です。鉄道によってパリから容易にアクセスできることから、この地域はパリ市民にとって週末旅行先として人気を集めるようになりました。

ノルマンディー地方特有の茅葺き屋根の家屋、春の光に包まれた草原、穏やかな空の表現には、藤田独自の繊細な線描と軽やかな色彩感覚が生かされています。

The French National Railways commissioned renowned artists over many years to create posters depicting iconic destinations throughout France, with the aim of encouraging both French residents and international visitors to travel by train.

This poster was created a few years after Tsuguharu Foujita obtained French citizenship. Already internationally recognized, he was selected as an artist embodying French culture, entrusted with the role of poetically portraying idealized regional landscapes.

The destination presented here is Normandy, located approximately two hours from Paris. Thanks to its easy accessibility by rail, the region became a popular weekend getaway for Parisians.

The thatched-roof houses characteristic of Normandy, sunlit spring meadows, and the serene sky are rendered through Foujita’s distinctive delicate linework and light, refined sense of color.

A fallen tree depicted across the river introduces a subtle contrast within the composition, suggesting the cycle of nature alongside the vitality of spring.
