フランスの外交官、劇作家、小説家 であるジャン・ジロドゥーが、戦争の宣言とフランス政府の降伏の後、滞在していたホテルの部屋で綴った、短い瞑想的な文章による書物を飾る藤田嗣治による一枚です。

冒頭の数段落でジロドゥーは、フジタの素描を贈り物として受け取ったこと、そしてその絵がどのように彼の仕事場の雰囲気を変えていったのかを語っています。

「それは眠っている女性だ。まるでオブジェの眠りのようだ……」

ページをめくるにつれて、女性の姿は断片化されながら展開し、肉体の細部として次第に浮かび上がってきます。


This is a lithograph by Tsuguharu Foujita created to accompany a short, meditative text written by the French diplomat, playwright, and novelist Jean Giraudoux while staying in a hotel room after the declaration of war and the capitulation of the French government.

In the opening paragraphs, Giraudoux recounts receiving a sketch by Foujita as a gift, and how the drawing gradually changed the atmosphere of his place of work.

“It is a sleeping woman, like the sleep of an object…”

As the pages turn, the figure of the woman unfolds and fragments, gradually emerging through the sensual details of her body.
